generators using diesel combustion to generate electricity are very popular among generator enthusiasts. Diesel generators they are often the first choice in the case of electricity supply solutions. current to places where the electrical network is not available. We will describe their advantages, technical parameters and possibilities of use in the following article.
Comparison of diesel and gasoline aggregates
Although in the case gasoline and diesel centrals in both cases, these are systems with an internal combustion engine, both generators (diesel and gasoline) have their differences.
In general, there are differences in particular in the following factors:
- fuel consumption – diesel generators are more economical compared to gasoline ones
- energy production – diesel power stations operate much more efficiently and are therefore able to produce more energy from the same volume of fuel
- cold start – diesel central units usually have a problem starting at lower temperatures, but they can be helped with a spark plug, petrol units start anyway regardless of the weather
- overall endurance – diesel generators do not require demanding maintenance, and they do not overheat during long-term operation (which is usually a problem with gasoline alternatives)
Parameters of diesel generators
When choosing a suitable diesel generator, it is advisable to monitor the technical parameters that will suit your use for the generator. It is therefore a good idea to choose devices with sufficient content and engine power. The performance of the generator usually depends on this. It is usually given in two values - maximum and permanent. The difference between them is the duration, while the maximum power is given within a short-term intensive load, the continuous power will give you information about the normal operation of the generator.
It is also good to pay attention to the output voltage, which is further specified by the number of sockets that the unit can drive, or then to their individual voltage values. Here again, choose the number of connections to meet your requirements for the entire generator.
Other important parameters include tank capacity, noise level, overall dimensions and weight.
Where will you use a diesel generator?
The great advantage of diesel generators is their practically unlimited volume capacity. It is limited practically only by the construction itself, and in principle it is therefore true that the size of the diesel tank is directly proportional to the duration of the operation of the diesel unit.
Of course, for safety reasons it is not advisable to store a large amount of flammable fuel together, but you can still find huge mobile diesel generators that can only be transported with the help of a towing device behind the car. You can then use such a device to power practically anything. More often, however, we also come across smaller diesel generators, which, however, are more than sufficient for domestic use.
